“Maintaining Elstead’s Parish Church for The Community”
The Friends of St James’s Charitable Trust was formed in 2001 in order to raise funds to help with the maintenance and development of Elstead’s village church. It is a registered charity and has a maximum of six trustees drawn from the village community. The Friends principal objective is to work on joint ventures with the Church Council to maintain and enhance the church and its surrounds.
Since its formation the Friends have raised nearly £150,000 which has repaired the stone walls and window arches, rebuilt major sections of the churchyard wall, modernised the chancel, repaired the organ and created a Garden of Remembrance in the churchyard.
