Advent counting down to Christmas – Day 24

24th December.  The Nativity Scene

In our final advent picture, the shepherds are praising, the kings are offering their gifts, Mary cannot take her eyes off her baby and Joseph has his protective arm around her.  There is such peace and wonder in the moment. Here are some Bible verses that remind of the story:

‘She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.’ All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).”

(Matthew 1:21-23 NIVUK )

“and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger”

(Luke 2:7 NIVUK)

The shepherds “saw the baby lying on a bed of hay…As the shepherds returned to their sheep, they were praising God and saying wonderful things about him. Everything they had seen and heard was just as the angel had said.”

(Luke 2:16-17, 19-20 CEV)

When the Magi “went into the house and saw the child with Mary, his mother, they knelt down and worshiped him.” (Matthew 2:11 CEV)

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6(NIVUK)
